However, if you are having some difficulties with your machine, this troubleshooting guide may help:

Trouble Shooting

Skipped stitches

The most likely cause for your machine to skip stitches is the machine needle. If your machine was sewing fine and suddenly decides to skip stitches, change you sewing machine needle.

Always make sure you are using the correct type of needle. Different types of fabric require different needles.

Knotting or breaking thread

Upper Threading Check

Completely unthread your sewing machine and re thread it. Make sure that the thread is being grasped by all the tension disks. Although it is not obvious, there are times that the thread has a tiny knot which gets stuck in a tension disk, or it may come loose from the tension disk. If the thread has a small knot, be sure to check the spool of thread for more knots. There are times that a bargain is not a bargain.

Bobbin Check

Had you just changed the bobbin? Is the thread evenly wound on the bobbin? If the proper tension was not held on the thread while the bobbin was winding, the thread does not have the proper tension on it. If the bobbin was wound properly the thread will lay almost as smoothly as a new spool of thread. If the thread looks loose or sloppy, remove it and re-wind the bobbin.

Always watch for bobbin wear. If the edges of the bobbin are showing abrasions, the size of the bobbin has changed and may be the culprit. Although the size change is minute, it allows the bobbin to wobble in the case and changes the tension.

Check for the way the bobbin thread is fed through the bobbin case. This is an important aspect to the bobbin tension being maintained. .

Tension Adjustments

These adjustments vary depending on your machine. The rule of thumb for a turning disk style adjustment is " righty tighty, lefty loosey ". The disks are actually held in place by a spring and screw, by turning to the right you are tightening the spring, by turning to the left you are loosening the spring. Adjust the tension until the stitches look even on the top and bottom of the fabric.

.
Regular Maintenance

Make sure to clean and oil your machine regularly. The best method is to use pressurized air, either from an air compressor, or in a can. You can also use a small brush to remove any lint.
